A house number sign needs to fit your entrance and be readable from the places where visitors look for your address. Before ordering, consider the mounting space, viewing position, and amount of text you want to include.
This guide compares four Domiluxis aluminum designs and explains how to assess their size for your home.
1. Measure the mounting space first
Measure the usable width and height of the wall or pillar where the sign will sit. Check for door trim, light fixtures, brick edges, and other features that limit the space available. Leave room around the plaque so its border does not crowd nearby details.
Make a paper or cardboard template at the full plaque size and tape it temporarily in position. View it from the path, driveway, and street. This helps you judge the scale before committing to a custom order.
2. Compare the four plaque sizes
The measurements below describe the overall plaque size, width × height. They do not describe the height of the house numbers.
| Design | Overall size | Customization |
|---|---|---|
| Rectangular Aluminum House Number Sign | 30 × 15 cm (11.81 × 5.91 in) 30 × 20 cm (11.81 × 7.87 in) 40 × 20 cm (15.75 × 7.87 in) 40 × 25 cm (15.75 × 9.84 in) |
House number |
| Arched Aluminum Address Sign | 30 × 24 cm 11.81 × 9.45 in |
House number and street name |
| Shaped Aluminum House Number Sign | 36 × 20 cm 14.17 × 7.87 in |
House number |
| Ornate Aluminum Address Sign | 38 × 25 cm 14.96 × 9.84 in |
House number and street name |
All four designs are made from 10mm (0.39 in) solid 6061 aluminum. Thickness describes the material, not the size of the lettering or its visibility from a distance.
3. Check visibility from the actual approach
Stand where a visitor would first look for your address. Check whether landscaping, parked vehicles, a gate, or a porch post could hide the sign. A clear position can be just as important as choosing a larger plaque.
These are non-illuminated signs. Assess the location after dark as well as during daylight, and consider whether existing exterior lighting reaches the plaque without creating glare.
There is no single plaque size that guarantees readability at every distance. Number height, font, contrast, lighting, and viewing angle all affect the result. Check any applicable local address-display requirements separately; a decorative plaque’s overall dimensions do not establish compliance.
4. Allow space for your customization
A short house number and a longer house number use the available space differently. Adding a street name also changes the layout. Do not assume that the numbers shown in a product photograph will be the same height on your personalized sign.
If you want both your house number and street name, compare the arched and ornate designs. If you want a number-only display, compare the rectangular and shaped designs.
Domiluxis provides a design proof for approval before production. Review the number, spelling, spacing, and layout carefully. If exact number height matters for your installation, ask us to confirm it before approving the proof.
5. Check the mounting surface
Mounting hardware is included, but the fixing method must suit your wall or pillar. Identify the actual supporting material rather than relying on its surface appearance. A decorative facing or thin panel may require a different fixing method.
Follow the installation instructions and use fixings appropriate for the substrate. If you are unsure about the mounting surface, consult an installer before drilling.
If your address has several digits, see our guide to choosing a sign size for 3, 4, or 5 digits for more specific spacing and layout examples.
